Singapore Election Results

Polls opened Saturday in Singapore for the country's general election, the most contested election in Singapore's recent history.
The election will decide 82 out of 87 seats of the incoming parliament.
Five seats were already decided as that slate ran unopposed in one district.
The opposition is launching its strongest challenge yet this year to the People's Action Party, which has ruled Singapore for more than five decades. The ruling party currently holds all but two seats.
Many voters have said they are worried about the relatively high cost of living and the rise of low-wage immigrant workers.
A record 2.2 million people are eligible to vote, many for the first time, the government-backed Straits Times newspaper reported. In 2006, the last election, 1.22 million people voted when 47 out of 84 seats were up for grabs, the newspaper said.
Polls are expected to close 8 p.m. Saturday (8 a.m. EST) and results are expected soon after.
